About the role:
We are looking for an inaugural Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Product engineering team. The product team is composed of the Admin Experience pod, the Content Experience pod, and the Ecosystem pod, focusing on our user-facing features that generate excitement and engagement using Forem. You will be managing ~11 individuals currently with plans to grow the team throughout the upcoming year. This role will report to the Head of Engineering. The starting salary range for this role is $208,000 - $224,000 plus equity and is not location-based.
Meet with team members 1:1 regularly
Work collaboratively with Product and Design for planning and execution milestones
Coach team members to ensure career growth and progression
Support tech leads in engineering execution and technical/architectural decision making
Communicate across pods so others at the company understand the direction of the work and reasoning behind decisions
Work with the Head of Engineering to cultivate a culture of technical excellence, learning, empowerment, and celebration
Collaboratively define, scope, prioritize, and estimate work
Ensure the team ships features and bug fixes regularly
Skills we’d like to see
3+ years experience managing teams
Experience working in an asynchronous, distributed team
High degree of empathy
Interest or experience in open source software and/or the open source community
Passionate about finding and introducing good engineering practices and processes
Passionate about growing individuals
Thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Strong communication skills and ability to interact with all levels in the organization
